Lab Assistant/ Electrochemist

Sigma Lithium is based in Culham Science Centre near Abingdon in Oxfordshire. We are small start-up moving fast to develop lithium battery materials for high-performance novel batteries. It is an excellent opportunity to be part of a team building new technologies.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an electrochemist to join our team.

Main responsibilities include:

1. General lab duties such as cleaning and drying battery cell components and upkeep of gloveboxes and lab areas

2. Electrode material inspection, qualification and cell assembly in glovebox.

3. Logging and reporting electrochemical data and its initial analysis with the view to making further improvements.

4. Destructive part analysis on allocated cells.

Experience:

Our ideal candidate is someone who has lab experience and knows lab-etiquette. Previous electrochemistry and battery assembly experience is desired but not necessary. A chemistry/materials science undergraduate degree, a chemistry/materials science master’s degree, or more than >2 years of lab experience in industry are required.

Basic skills with MS office/Office 365 suite of programmes

Basic knowledge of hand tools and labware

Attention to details and accuracy in experiments are critically important. We are looking for a candidate who is well organised, follows lab-safety rules, and is proactive in prioritising tasks. It is important for the candidate to have a passion for science, engineering and innovation. Ideal candidate should be able to troubleshoot and solve technical problems and independently manage day-to-day laboratory tasks.

This is a full-time position from January 2024.
